For most of us, the importance of having critical illness cover in place doesn't become clear until we have to make a claim yet, the average age of male claimants is 43 and the average age of female claimants is 40.

Nearly 2.7million people are living with Coronary Heart Disease in the UK .*
Each year over 111,000 people in England & Wales have a stroke for the first time. Stroke is the 3rd biggest killer and highest cause of disability. One third of stroke victims are likely to die; one third are likely to remain disabled, only one third are expected to recover**
There are over 200 different types of cancer. 1 in 3 people will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime***

Insurance Companies are reporting significant increases in claims for Critical Illness cover, and the payments they are making:

$ Scottish Provident report that they paid out 93% of all critical illness claims assessments concluded between January and June 2009 - an increase of six percentage points on the first half of 2008. This is one of the highest percentages in the industry.

Their new claims paid report reveals that the total amount paid out to critical illness policyholders in the first half of 2009 reached over £43million, with an average payout of £74,207.
For the first half of this year, they paid out almost £30million in cancer claims and over £3.7million in claims for heart attacks. In addition, children's benefit continues to be the fifth highest critical illness paid out on - further reinforcing the importance of this additional cover, which is included at no extra cost with thei critical illness plan.
A number of ourScottish Provident definitions continue to appear in the top ten of critical illness conditions paid out on in the first half of 2009

Heart Attack (2nd)
Benign Brain Tumour (6th)
Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (8th)
Heart Valve Replacement or Repair (10th).

Whilst we cannot prevent the occurrence of a critical illness or condition but we can help you to reduce the financial impact such a crisis will have.
